4) Reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect by offering the parent(s) support and education about parenting.
About 2 in every 100,000 children die every year from child abuse and neglect.
Very young children (ages 3 and younger) are most frequently victims of such child abuse and neglect because of their dependency, small size, and inability to defend themselves.
Most frequently the abuser is a young adult in his or her mid-20s, without a high school diploma, living at or below the poverty level, depressed, and who may have difficulty coping with stressful situations.

The support this bill can offer to women and their families could help prevent the many health issues discussed in the last few posts. As advocates for our patients, we as nursing students believe this bill to be needed to help those who may not have the ability to help themselves. With a little support, these women can better care for themselves and their children, resulting in a healthier, happier population.
