Pregnant teens are at a high risk for not obtaining prenatal care and also for delivering a low birth weight child. The study showed that teens who received prenatal care expended less funds than those who received no care.

In the past, reasons women may have choosen to have an abortion included 1) having a baby would interfere with school, 2) work or other responsibilities, and 3) that they could not afford a child. This recent study indicates that the decision to have an abortion has multiple factors which include not being able to afford to have a child, responsibilities to their own living children, partner issues, and unreadiness to parent. The Pregnancy Support Act proposes helping pregnant women become prepared to raise a child by providing educational and financial support during and after pregnancy.

Teen pregnancy is a major problem but unfortunately not much has been done to solve it. I think this act will be very beneficial especially for teen mothers or teens who have just gotten pregnant. I have found that many teens abort because they are scared of taking care of the child and feel that they will not have any support in raising a child. As stated, they feel that they will not be able to finish school or be able to afford it.
ReplyDeleteI believe with this act, many teen parents will feel relief knowing they have support out there during this time and feel more confident raising a child.
Also, I feel that education on prenatal care is very important and by starting education earlier, will help with having healthier babies.
We agree that prenatal care is essential as well as parenting class to help after the baby is born. We believe education and support will help build confidence in the mothers so that they feel prepared for motherhood.
ReplyDeleteTeenage pregnancy is a major problem. For those who feel abortion is the only option, this act will provide women with options. For example, there would be support to help with the completion of high school and/or college. The bill also provides financial help until the mother finds more stability.
